Overall, the China-Europe rail network achieved an on-time arrival rate of 91.3% in Q2 2025, representing a 2.1 percentage point improvement over Q1. The average transit time from major Chinese departure cities to European destinations was 16.8 days, with a standard deviation of 1.4 days.
The Chengdu–Warsaw corridor demonstrated the highest reliability at 94.7% on-time performance, with an average transit time of 14.2 days. This route benefits from dedicated train slots and streamlined customs procedures at both the Alashankou and Malaszewicze border crossings. The Xi'an–Hamburg route followed closely at 93.1% on-time rate.
Transit through the northern corridor (via Russia and Belarus) showed improved performance compared to Q1, with on-time rates recovering to 89.4%. Border crossing delays at Brest averaged 4.2 hours, down from 7.8 hours in Q1, reflecting enhanced coordination between railway operators and customs authorities.
The southern corridor via the Trans-Caspian route maintained its position as the most variable option, with an on-time rate of 82.6% and average transit time of 21.3 days. While this route offers geopolitical diversification benefits, shippers should plan for additional buffer time when using this corridor for time-sensitive cargo.
Looking ahead to Q3 2025, we anticipate continued improvement in overall network reliability as new digital tracking systems are deployed across border crossings. Shippers are advised to select corridors based on their specific reliability requirements and to maintain contingency routing plans for critical shipments.
